Re: Helene
Well, some of you may remember I used to live on Treasure Island. I'm so god damn glad I moved 5 years ago. My office down by the airport got within inches of water intrusion. Luckily I didn't have damage here, but I know a lot of people who have to basically gut their entire homes and renovate.
This was easily the worst storm Tampa has seen in 100 years and it was barely within 100 miles of our coastline. I really don't think I want to be here to see one make a direct hit.

Re: Helene
What a fucking nightmare for the Southeast.
The Fat Cave is ok. But parent's home is fucked. Sand in the house (obviously water was), ridiculously old & refurbished wood floors already buckling.
Some drone footage of island were folks are / were. The drone is headed north (towards Tampa).

Re: Helene
Personally I've had worse. But Tampa and the coastline to the south and north has literally never seen storm surge this bad. Any 1 story building on the barrier islands is a wash. Either a complete teardown or a gut and renovate situation. We're talking about potentially millions of people displaced for a very, very long time and an asinine amount of damage in terms of monetary value.
That's a pool in Siesta Key.

That's the building I work in. Looks like the surge got within inches of water intrustion and we're ~9 ft above sea level.
