You were always the Trotsky to my Lenin.
What happened?
Long & uninteresting story. Boss said something to me I did not like. I asked him to repeat himself (professionally). He did with the typical asshole laugh as if he were joking. Cowards never expect to be called out.
I excused myself, got all my shit & left laptop & badge on desk.
After seeing my folks play the game the right way (for the most part) their entire lives only to lose everything and hear my mother cry herself to sleep at night bc she's old, scared & confused.
Yeah, I'm going to try and do something that makes me happy before I go find my tree and lay down.
Going to take rest of month off to help them. Have my father's surviving siblings all flying in for Thanksgiving. One last family gathering that we never would have had if weren't for storms.
As you are so fond of pointing out, been divorced forever. Never remarried. No kids (that I know of) so it is "easier" for me to take a little risk.

I can't think of a better use of your time.
Bust out any and all family photo albums you have when you see everyone.

Thanks Man. I'm not as worried as I should be but much like Kramer; I eventually fall ass backwards into a decent gig.
Good call. My mom has been sending me old family photos & family heirlooms for a while (just in case of a storm). Think she's totally forgotten.
Going to break those out when everyone is here.

Good for you man, I have done and probably will do the same thing again. People in corporate management are largely fucking scum and I don't deal with that shit at all.

Preach. It's a disgusting & disingenuous culture. I even am kicking idea of just working at Costco for a bit. They offer benefits for part-time workers. Health is the only concern but got a good report from one specialist on Wednesday. Weird thing is, throughout all of this shit, I've felt healthier than I have in years.
TLDR: i need to stop bitching like a 12 year-old girl that skinned her knee and do something about it

That's a legitimate retirement strategy for people. You lock down the house, build the portfolio, and then take a part time job with good health insurance benefits until you qualify for Medicare

That's my plan, except for the part where I build a portfolio and get medicare/SS benefits. My actual retirement plan is to probably just die, or hopefully my folks have enough left when they croak that I can coast to the finish line.

So, here's one you hear way too often: My work had a part of the building remodeled and moved us up here. The new furniture is largely great but they spent over $800 a piece on chairs that don't even fucking recline. Like these are some super-uncomfortable chairs. I have a Secret Lab Titan Evo XL at home, looks like this:
I've had to sit in this garbage-ass chair at the office for two days and I already ordered another Secret Lab chair, this one looking like this:
So now the charcoal chair will be joining me at the office in the second week of December since after Wednesday I'm off until then.
Fuck stupid CEOs and COOs who make furniture decisions without consulting the people who use the furniture. If they had listened to me they'd have saved money, too, because the chairs I have are barely over $500. Now these fools are going to be mad jealous of my throne.
These are the chairs we have now, further proof that C-suite level executives are mostly morons with no common sense:
