That's the tackle that keeps snapping ankles.I thought "wrap and roll" worked fine. The Outsider wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:41 pmAnd it's almost a guarantee that if it happens once per game it'll be flagged 4 times per game and none of those 4 times will be the instance in which the hip-drop tackle actually takes place.
We're talking about officials that can't consistently call clear instances/non-instances of RTP. They don't know what a catch is. They don't know how to call pass interference in any coherent way.emby wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:44 pmI thought "wrap and roll" worked fine. The Outsider wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:41 pmAnd it's almost a guarantee that if it happens once per game it'll be flagged 4 times per game and none of those 4 times will be the instance in which the hip-drop tackle actually takes place.
You don't like Mr Magoo out there? By George he's been calling games since 1960!The Outsider wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:17 amWe're talking about officials that can't consistently call clear instances/non-instances of RTP. It's not about the rule, it's about how terrible NFL officials are. I still think it should be a full time job, paid well, and their off season work should include rigorous training and workshops on new rules along with rules that have some room for interpretation. The league should be hammering into these guys' heads how the league wants the penalties to be called. And there needs to be an age cap of like 50-55 for these refs at maximum. I want dudes who can see and who can keep up with the game.
I think that's less poor officiating and different crew chiefs enforcing rules there way and not having the NFL make it more black and white. Some crews are known for calling ticky tack pass interference. Some won't call them unless it's a brutal manhandling. Some will call even a moment of a jersey tug for holding whiles some will only call it if you have 4 inches of tug and an arm wrapped around their neck. Every team has each crews tendancies and they send them out the day before the game to the players so they know what they can and can't get away with. Until the NFL does something about it, which they never will, officiating will be at the whim of the individual ref teamsThe Outsider wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:17 amWe're talking about officials that can't consistently call clear instances/non-instances of RTP. Inconsistent officiating is poor officiating. Period. The English Premier League has the same problems. Refs that are way too self important to the point that they think their opinion should be the end all be all. That's why I said the NFL needs to have rigorous offseason programs to get these guys on the same page and get some consistency into the way certain penalties are called.kaimaru wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 5:24 pmI think that's less poor officiating and different crew chiefs enforcing rules there way and not having the NFL make it more black and white. I don't disagree, and gambling and the NFL makes this look worse. Letting the refs decide one way or the other based on their own personal opinions/interpretations does nothing but damage the game. Do I think any of what I said will happen? No. But it should happen and I won't stop bitching about it.
