Sometimes living in a society requires a little sacrifice to protect those who cannot protect themselves, i.e. immunocompromised people who couldn't get vaccinated, cancer patients, people with autoimmune disorders, etc.

I think it would have been overboard if there was a federal vaccine mandate (I don't have a problem with the NFL, for example having one. They can do whatever they want.) and the mask mandate would have been overbearing if it was something that was punitively enforced, but as it was it was just strongly suggested advice. How much good it did is debatable, but in a situation like COVID it's worth trying anything that could potentially have a positive impact. Especially if there is virtually no way it has a negative impact on public health.
I don't disagree with the premise that people should be considerate of others regardless if there is a pandemic or not. I followed the rules for the most part, wore my mask, social distanced, stayed home (going to do that no matter what). Fast fwd years later and Fauci is pointing his Devil digits at the CDC, the CDC is blaming someone else about how the 6' rule was pretty much made up. The effectiveness of masks (again, this was an easy ask to comply with) but turned out they were not all that effective. And yes, science / recommendations change as time passes and more data / analysis is gathered. But go back and watch the media, celebrities, politicians, Karens and so be so indignant about a therapeutic that didn't prevent you from getting Covid and certainly didn't prevent the spread.

There are a great deal of apologies owed by a great deal of people but their hubris won't ever allow it. And now the medical community / experts have been reprehensibly damaged to the point that a good deal of this country will tune them out during the next pandemic.

Which I predict will be in Oct '24..... purely coincidental, of course.

Well the mistake there is pretending like those people's opinions matter. As for masks, I think the ineffectiveness was overblown and was more related to the fact that we didn't have an adequate supply of N95 masks to give to everyone and we don't have the capability to magic up hundreds of millions of those on demand.

So most people were wearing surgical masks or cloth masks, which the CDC was up front about not being significantly effective. But to be honest if it even decreases the chance of spread by 10% it's still better than nothing. The fact of the matter is that our medical apparatus did the best it could with the resources it was given and while dealing with the chaos factor of the Trump administration and his Mierdas Touch.

All of the bad shit in our country in the last 40 years can be directly tied to two people. Ronald Reagan and Donald J Trump. Bill Clinton cheated on his wife and had a sham real estate lawsuit brought against him in Arkansas. HW did HW things but mostly the country itself was fine. I'll forever stand by the opinion that W was given a raw deal having 9/11 less than a year into his first term and then he had his father's evil cronies (and somehow immortal, I think they may be liches) whispering in his ear to go to war with Iraq, etc. Obama did a pretty damn good job considering the factors around his Presidency. While I disagree with the bank bailouts and shit I can see why it was done from a logical point of view. He is also underrated for his ability to work with the other party to accomplish things. The ACA, while severely flawed, has dramatically improved health insurance coverage in our country,

Reagan started the process of selling us out to the oligarchs and the evangelicals and aside from that did plenty of crazy shit in office including taking advice from his wife's (Nancy "The Throat Goat") astrology quack. And that's not even getting in to Iran-Contra, Ollie North, and the way he ratfucked his way into office by sabotaging Carter's talks with Iran.

Then Trump took that shit and decided to speed run it but with an overwhelming dose of stupid thrown in the mix. Even Reagan did some beneficial things for the country. I can't think of a single idea that Trump has had that would be beneficial. In fact I can't think of a single idea he's expressed since his time campaigning in 2015 that isn't outright retarded.

Their opinions didn't matter then and matter even less to me now, trust me. But you can't deny we were pounded over the head with a 5lb hammer about getting the jab / pandemic of the unvaccinated / the misinformation or at very least, the dismissal of natural immunity, transmitted through touching surfaces or droplets can travel so far and still infect, discouraging going outside, getting sunlight, the beach, washing boxes and on and on and on. The experts were fucking wrong on a lot of theories yet were so fucking indignant. So, Fauci, Birks, Walensky, Trump, Biden will get absolutely no quarter from me. And i still self pleasure to the fantasy of seeing them all hung in the middle of a public square.

But you'll get no arguement from me about W and the incredible evil that is/was Dick Cheney (quite possibly the most evil person in US political history), Rumsfeld and crew. At least Rummy is dead.

They were wrong about a lot of theories because they had no idea what vectors the virus spread through so they threw everything at the wall and saw what stuck. They were trying to cover all of the bases they could possibly cover. I honestly don't think you understand how difficult it is to be coordinating a pandemic response on the fly while also trying to learn how the virus works at the same time. Also, no one mentions that Trump demolished a pandemic preparedness program established by Obama almost as soon as he got into office. If he hadn't made that one braindead decision the COVID pandemic probably looks significantly different today.

Also, I forgot Rumsfeld died, thanks for making my day.

As for getting pounded over the head by a 5 lb hammer, I heavily curate the media I consume. If I see something that I think is extraneous to my needs or is outright stupid or wrong I just tune it out and move on with my life. I see no value in understanding the other side of things when they don't make sense.

I'm pleasantly surprised America has taken such an interest in this issue. I never would have expected this.

I would think that's a global result. But I don't know.

You have a good point. However I have noticed that any internet related statistics of that type tend to skew American. It isn't until you get into things like politics in other countries, soccer, and cricket where the Yerapeeins, Asians, and Indians really start to impact numbers.

Edit: The post actually says 'Untied States past 30 days" So I'm pretty confident these are search numbers exclusive to our country.

Nice. I'll ask Dad if he heard about it this week.

Jesus Christ, this fucking dolt is so horrid in front of a mic.

But at least the creepy whisper is back, Jack.

Not a joke.

Does anyone know who the most pro-Union President in history is?

Apparently, Trump is the Vice President.

I'm not watching because literally nothing in the political, well election anyway, sphere is relevant to me. I know who I'm voting against and there isn't a damn thing that can change that.
