Yo, not sure if you eat bluefish, and one definitely isn't enough for this. But bluefish is usually known as a junk fish. Couldn't be further from the truth it just takes a bit of prep and it doesn't keep well. If you ever have a day where you catch a good number of blues take em home, fillet them, and you'll see that they have a blood like much like tuna or mackerel have. Remove that, cut the fillets in to strips, lightly dust the strips with a mixture of flour, salt, and pepper, and then lightly pan fry. Throw them bitches in a tortilla of your choice with whatever else you want and you'll have some of the best fish tacos you'll ever get.

Edit: Just never, ever, freeze bluefish unless you have a flash freezer and even then it really isn't worth it. The cells in the meat rupture easily so you end up with some pretty mushy fish.
I'd always heard you can soak bluefish in buttermilk for a couple of days before you throw it out.

That can work but for me they're a 'eat the day they're caught' fish. I treat spanish mackerel and kingfish the same way, they get too stank nasty if you try to freeze them. I also include snook in that list but only because snook is so fucking good.

Never had the pleasure of Snook. Bastards are elusive and not easy to catch. The only one I ever caught was a baby.

I got a line on a boat ride this extended red snapper season. Looking forward to trying that out too. I'm here for the Grouper and triggerfish already. I think that trip is going to be what gets me the bug to go buy a boat.

Seems impossible in this economy, I know. But for what I'm currently paying for just a truck, I could have a truck payment and a boat.payment and still have beer money.

I've currently only caught 2 snook that were of size in my life and one was an accidental snag when I was throwing a castnet for mullet. The other was one that would hang right off my mom's dock. Most of the fishing I've done in my life was offshore not too far from you in Panama City Beach. Caught tons of huge red snapper, red grouper, kingfish, and a wahoo once. A couple sharks as well. Good offshore fishing up that way.

Yeah, the local surf fishing Facebook page has dudes catching their limit of pompano between Pensacola and Panama City every day.

If I keep getting out there I'll start bringing them in. Already upgrading rigs and bait and with better planning, I can fish for more than 3 hours at a time.

Blue Crab starts spawning up here in June and runs through July. Little bastards come right up to shore and so long as it doesn't have red claws or is smaller than my phone, He's going in the bucket.

I'm allergic to shellfish, but IDGAF, the wife and kids love ocean bugs and crabbing with a scoop net in hip deep water is fun as hell.

That's the best GoPro footage I've seen and Navarre is less than an hour away.

Yeah there were some real nice redfish and sheepshead out there. Just a ton of fish in general.

This weekend might be my last shot at some pompano until the fall. Come June, it's Spanish Mackerel and crab fishing all summer.

I knew that when the water warmes up, the tourists will rinse their asses in the gulf causing the blue crabs to spawn and the crabs bring the stingrays and the stingrays bring the sharks. The sharks eat the tourists and I already got what I need to go crabbing.

What I didn't know was in between that, you have big ass schools of spanish mack, bonito, and Jack Crevelle cruising the surf all summer. So we're going from bottom rigs to plugs and jigs.

eyeballing Hurricane lake for freshwater action.

Locked it in for this weekend.

I got my go at the pompano tomorrow at first light. Gonna set up my 10' pole with the pompano rig and put a silver spoon on my 7' pole and see what bites. Looking at Navarre Beach but I might chicken out and do Okaloosa island. I suppose one spot is as good as the next when they're 12 miles apart. It's really going to be about dodging the beach crowds.

Wife wants to freshwater fish on Sunday afternoon so we're hitting Hurricane Lake to see how the bass fishing is on the south shore.

Life sucks.

Left a half hour late. Forgot to charge my phone and forgot to bring my wallet.

Skipped breakfast.

Blustery conditions. Turgid water. Fuckin seaweed all over the place. At least parking was wide open at the beach access.

Start setting up, one of my reels is busted. Like straight up busted so I'm down to one rod and reel. Poseidon sends rogue wave that gets all my shit wet and spilled my coffee. Then I realized I left my vape pen in the truck.

Seaweed drags my pompano rigs back to shore every five fuckin minutes and some meathead tourist sets up ten feet away from me and we get snagged, so I put the silver spoon on, wade out to balls deep and start casting.

If you chuck a two ounce lure and reel it in really hard for two and a half hours it's going to take it out of you. And Poseidon took the opportunity to knock my ass around the whole time.

I was crowded off the beach by 10am
