Also the first fish I've ever caught on artificial bait. Like ever.

Now I want a boat.
Kick ass. I really, really want a flats boat. Like a 18 ft Boston Whaler or Carolina Skiff. I love bass fishing and I absolutely love flats fishing in salt water. Nothing beats catching trout, redfish, snook, and the occasional flounder all day.

I'm thinking either an oversized skiff or 24-ish foot center console.

I wanna harvest choctawhatchee bay for all those flats species you mentioned, but I want to get to the reefs for grouper and red snapper too. As well as just beyond the second sandbar which I can't cast to from shore.

This fall I'ma try gigging flounder.

So my dad had a 26' ProKat Center Console. Great boat. I'd recommend a catamaran hull if you go that route, handled relatively high seas pretty well and could turn on a dime at speed. Problem you run into with those guys are maintenance, unless you can do it all yourself. Another issue is having the time to use it often enough to justify the cost.

Not trying to dissuade you at all, just pointing out some of the downsides I noticed from my dad's time as a boat owner.

Not plugging this channel or anything, but I spent my recovery napping, watching the draft, and fishing videos.

A lot of these are shot about a mile away from my office on Henderson Beach. I'm sure that's got nothing to do with anything.

That's pretty cool. Unfortunately for me Hernando County has almost zero public beaches so to fish it's at least a half hour to 45 minute drive even though I'm only about 4 miles from the gulf.

I learned really quick that the Florida constitution has a right to fish from the water to the high tide mark.

From public beach access you can walk the whole damned coast of Florida and cast a line anywhere you please.

Hernando County, outside of Pine Island, is the only county in which homes on the beach own the entire beach to the water line. It's horse shit and I learned that after I moved there. And that local ordinance overrides the state law.

That's some bullshit.

I'd have waders on with a middle finger on the back.

Yo, not sure if you eat bluefish, and one definitely isn't enough for this. But bluefish is usually known as a junk fish. Couldn't be further from the truth it just takes a bit of prep and it doesn't keep well. If you ever have a day where you catch a good number of blues take em home, fillet them, and you'll see that they have a blood like much like tuna or mackerel have. Remove that, cut the fillets in to strips, lightly dust the strips with a mixture of flour, salt, and pepper, and then lightly pan fry. Throw them bitches in a tortilla of your choice with whatever else you want and you'll have some of the best fish tacos you'll ever get.

Edit: Just never, ever, freeze bluefish unless you have a flash freezer and even then it really isn't worth it. The cells in the meat rupture easily so you end up with some pretty mushy fish.

I'd always heard you can soak bluefish in buttermilk for a couple of days before you throw it out.
