The amounts really aren't the point IMO. How long has the US been sending foreign aid around the world? How many gazillions in the last decade alone? Are we seeing real benefits from this investment?

I'm a large proponent of getting your own house in order before looking to help others.

And you'll get no argument from me that the tax codes are completely fucked up & backwards. But say we tax the shit out of every single corporation, how does that go for the rest of us? Those costs will just be passed down, jobs lost and the little guy fucked yet again.

Who fucking cares how long and how much? If we have the money to do that kind of shit then we should. And we do have the money, we just let the billionaire class accumulate it and then sit on it where it does no good for anyone.

As for your point about the costs being passed down, this is why unregulated capitalism is fated to consume itself. Obviously, in a sane world, you'd have regulations and significant punishments that prevent such a thing

Also, they need us more than we need them. Sure, they raise costs and we get squeezed tighter. We buy less, they make less, and still get taxed appropriately

There's no perfect answer to this dilemma that's been found but what we've got now definitely is one of the worst.

My criticism is the break neck speed this administration is operating. We didn't get into this mess overnight, we aren't going to get out of it quickly.

You know how I feel about the DoE and how scores have dropped since it's inception. At the same time, education is a key component to lifting people out of poverty. I'm definitely more of a federalist. That money would most likely be used better locally.

Definitely aligned that every American child should have access to quality education, sounds trite but education is a true equalizer. And the funds need to be directed to both the local schools (infrastructure) as well as salaries. If the DoE is to remain (which I believe it will) it needs to be more of a watch dog that those funds are being directed where they should be. But after seeing all of this craziness & waste, I don't know how to "fix" any of it to operate responsibly.
