Mason Rudolph is straight ass, though.
He's 60% of his passes and cheap. I think that's an edge over a day two rookie
I don't care what his completion % is. He's doodoo. Kenny Pickett is a football terrorist and he was better than Rudolph.
Okay okay. I'm not married to Rudolph lol.

Who would you sign?

Honestly? No idea. I'd have to see who is available in FA at QB. But someone like a Drew Lock or fuck, even Daniel Jones, would be my preference. With someone like Rudolph you may as well have a rookie in there because he ain't winning you games. He'll run your offense into the ground.

You could talk me into Drew Lock but not Daniel Jones.

Jones is no worse than Blaine Gabbert was at that point in his career. For my backup I want a guy who is physically talented and dynamic enough to be able to be a threat even if they don't consistently play well. I'd be okay with Jones having to start 2 or 3 games and I think on a good team with good coaching he'd probably be good enough to win those 2 or 3 games. If we're at the point where Baker is injured for 6-7 games or more, that's just straight up 'throw in the towel' territory and it just straight up doesn't matter who the backup is.

I'd say that's the case for most teams if they're on their backup QB.

It makes the most sense. You take a flier on someone with a lot of upside in the later rounds, like 4th or later. They'll be cheap and like we've established, backup QB is really one of the least important positions on the team because if you're in a spot where you have to rely on your backup there's a very, very good chance that your season is already over.

Granted this isn't necessarily the case as we saw with the Case Keenum Vikings years ago, but that's catching lightning in a bottle and not something that any team should expect to happen.

I just looked it up. 58 quarterbacks got a start in 2024.

How does that affect the calculus? We spent a third on Trask and didn't have to use him. Ready to do it again?

At least 6 QBs got a start from just two teams. Hell, outside of Cooper Rush, Fields, and whoever the hell Tua's backup was were there even any who got starts due to injury? From what I can recall off the top of my head the other backup starts were basically because the starter sucked ass.

I know Watson was technically hurt, but he was also the worst player at his position in the league.

Saints and Browns juggled two QBs after Carr and Watson went down.

But you make a good point there

Watson doesn't count as he was probably the worst day 1 starting QB in the league. I'm not even convinced he was actually seriously injured. But yeah, Saints I forgot about.

We should totally trade for Myles Garrett

I wouldn't blink to give Cleveland a third round pick
