I can imagine no megalomaniac who would want the fuckin hassle of being emperor of 8 billion broke ass people.

King of England, Sultan of Oman, Chancellor of Germany, sure, cool.

The real high water mark for political power doesn't extend very far beyond the nation state. EU, NATO, UN are all political coalitions of sovereign nations for certain purposes and have little real governing power.

As far as the whole crushing individuality bit ,I think that seems overblown. Some people make objectivism their whole personality. Individuality that shallow should be crushed because it's of no use to the state or the market.

The really confusing part to me is that it's very, very obvious that one can be both a collectivist and an individual. These are not states of being that are mutually exclusive. In fact, collectivism is a philosophical concept and not a state of being at all, which being an individual is.

It's a conflict made up by people who don't understand the concepts they're pitting against each other.

There's always going to be competing urges to both be a part of a fraternity of teammates and the need for independence.

It's simply makes more sense to pool resources and ideas and that can easily be done while retaining one's individuality. Like so many other human problems I struggle really hard to see why people have difficulty understanding that. Sometimes I feel like I'm a different species altogether.
