YOU. HONKEY LIPS!
In all seriousness, you do realize that there are far more racist countries in the world, with far fewer opportunities for POC, right? Can we at least agree on that?

100% agree that saying; "Hey, at least you're not being hung from a tree anymore" is a great message.emby wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:20 pm Racism is a thing around the world. 10-4
I don't think telling ethnic or racial minorities to just be glad they got it this good is the best way forward. The Korean dude that runs my local Oriental Market (That's what he calls it) is one of the nicest people in town and is pretty doggone humble. He knows he's got it good.
Integration is the answer. Not assimilation.
First. No. That's a terrible message.PetePierson wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:26 pm100% agree that saying; "Hey, at least you're not being hung from a tree anymore" is a great message.emby wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:20 pm Racism is a thing around the world. 10-4

We have had this discussion before. I think we know where most white people feel (whether they admit it or not) but do you think the majority of Asians, Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims want to live next to the Cleavers? I would imagine there is a reason why they have Chinatowns (one example) in some major cities. When is the last time you were in Miami? Trust me, Comrade -you are now and have been the foreigner in that city.
And I don't think that is a bad thing. Most species on this planet mate and cohabitate with their own. It's natural. I don't feel that equates to racism.
I think we disagree on how / what "enforced by the state" means. My guess is that you feel the restrictions of capitalism caused the all of the socio-economic issues.emby wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:39 pm First. No. That's a terrible message.
Second, self segregation is okay. We all self segregated over here because shooting the shit about politics over at It's a dumb fuck's life turned into a shitshow run by idiots. Where I live today the old segregation in the city is not hard to miss. Literally the other side of the tracks and behind the courthouse type of segregation that is still observable if dilluted today. When it's enforced by the state is when I have problems. And that'll take you down the old forced bussing road from back in the day.
Anyway, So what if Miami is the Mos Eisley of the US? The latin flavor down there is ostensibly the appeal. I LOVE that I can go indulge in foreign cuisine and festivals and shit all over the country. The Vietnamese food in Louisiana is supposed to rival that of Hanoi. Who doesn't love the idea of a good Cuban block party or a BBQ cookoff in St Louis?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with people wanting to hold onto their cultures / values. Miami is a great city. I am just two fat and old to be seen there. My last two girlfriends have been Hispanic (A Puerta Rican gal and a Dominican). And no shit, the Rican actually nipped me while trying to stab me during an argument. So, some stereotypes exist for a reason. And on another note from my experience; neither enjoyed being referred to as Mexicans. x100 if when they say; "I am not Mexican" and you respond back; You're all Mexicans to me". Odd that I am perpetually single.
