Like when you guys say; "debt doesn't matter".The Outsider wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:01 pm Sometimes you say things that make me realize that in some areas you're completely beholden to propaganda and ultimately divorced from reality.
Debt only matters on a personal level. It doesn't matter on a national or international level particularly when you're the single most dominant country in every single aspect that matters.PetePierson wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:02 pmLike when you guys say; "debt doesn't matter".The Outsider wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:01 pm Sometimes you say things that make me realize that in some areas you're completely beholden to propaganda and ultimately divorced from reality.
I can relate.
But when the US credit rating takes a hit, it does affect interest rates at a personal / family / business level. The Outsider wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:06 pm Debt only matters on a personal level. We control the world economy more or less. And there's a reason that every country or leader that attempts to move away from fiat currency to a gold or silver standard ends up like my boy Muammar Gaddafi.
On a slightly related note: Still my favorite authoritarian leader of all time. Dude just had swag and his military bodyguard unit comprised entirely of extremely fine Libyan women was utter perfection.
I don't know too many conservatives that sincerely want to see it all burn to the ground. But definitely lean more right than you two yahoos but that is not exactly hard to do. I believe this issue is more than I am a capitalist even though we really don't have a free market.

Yes, the US Credit rating matters but the debt doesn't. The US will literally never default on it's debt purely by virtue of the fact that we're an incredibly massive part of the global economy. For us to default, the countries that own our debt would have to call for it to be paid, which they won't do because if they did and we defaulted it would destroy their economies just as quickly and thoroughly as ours. And that's if we don't just answer that request with an extreme show of force.PetePierson wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:10 pmBut when the US credit rating takes a hit, it does affect interest rates at a personal / family / business level. The Outsider wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:06 pm Debt only matters on a personal level. Those hot ladies did little to stop things from ending badly for your boy, Gaddafi. Ouchie.
But at least the open slave trade market is back!
I'm a socio-capitalist. We're not so different. I just think that the benefits of capitalism should be used to serve the people, not make individuals like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos worth tens of billions of dollars.PetePierson wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:12 pmI don't know too many conservatives that sincerely want to see it all burn to the ground. The enforcement mechanism is tax penalties.emby wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 9:50 pm Edit:
Biden is calling for national rent control. Annual rent increases capped at 5%.
I don't know what the enforcement mechanism is. A lawsuit I presume.
I bring it up because I know Pete is going to be opposed to it from a property rights perspective, and I know jack shit about rent control.
