I don't disagree with the premise that people should be considerate of others regardless if there is a pandemic or not. I followed the rules for the most part, wore my mask, social distanced, stayed home (going to do that no matter what). Fast fwd years later and Fauci is pointing his Devil digits at the CDC, the CDC is blaming someone else about how the 6' rule was pretty much made up. The effectiveness of masks (again, this was an easy ask to comply with) but turned out they were not all that effective. And yes, science / recommendations change as time passes and more data / analysis is gathered. But go back and watch the media, celebrities, politicians, Karens and so be so indignant about a therapeutic that didn't prevent you from getting Covid and certainly didn't prevent the spread. The Outsider wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 12:04 pm I wouldn't have had an issue with this if it weren't a highly virulent disease that disproportionately impacted vulnerable subsets of our population and along with that it was a disease we really had no treatment for. Sometimes living in a society requires a little sacrifice to protect those who cannot protect themselves, i.e. immunocompromised people who couldn't get vaccinated, cancer patients, people with autoimmune disorders, etc.
I think it would have been overboard if there was a federal vaccine mandate (I don't have a problem with the NFL, for example having one. They can do whatever they want.) and the mask mandate would have been overbearing if it was something that was punitively enforced, but as it was it was just strongly suggested advice. How much good it did is debatable, but in a situation like COVID it's worth trying anything that could potentially have a positive impact. Especially if there is virtually no way it has a negative impact on public health.
There are a great deal of apologies owed by a great deal of people but their hubris won't ever allow it. And now the medical community / experts have been reprehensibly damaged to the point that a good deal of this country will tune them out during the next pandemic.
Which I predict will be in Oct '24..... purely coincidental, of course.
